Public Cloud & Modern Software Architectures

As an expert, I understand the challenges you face. The logistics industry is complex and fragmented, and new technologies and processes often fail before integration. There are many supposed tools out there. But what the industry really needs are holistic solutions that cover all aspects of logistics. No more silos and island solutions!

As a consultant with over 20 years of experience, I can help you take full advantage of the public cloud and future-proof IT architectures. Let's work together to overcome your individual obstacles and create ways to quickly generate value in your logistics environment!
  • Requirement

The goal was to create a centralized solution that would encompass all processes from delivery, RTTV, booking, and yard management, and allow for centralized operation.

It was important to integrate with SAP EWM and ERP, so an SAP-based approach was initially considered. However, to ensure the desired level of customization and flexibility, we ultimately decided to implement in the cloud.

  • Implementation and Benefits

Together we were able to create a fully integrated process flow between SAP ERP, EWM, and myleo/dsc. The cloud approach also enabled numerous automations, such as partial and full notification via a bot, or more efficient gate utilization through dynamic time window calculation based on notified carriers and materials. All information could be centrally consolidated in one solution, eliminating the need for document drives. By reintegrating with SAP EWM, delivery documents can still be created for physical warehouse processes. Overall, logistics processes have already become 15 percent more efficient.

Artificial Intelligence

The integration of artificial intelligence is essential in order to make better decisions and increase efficiency. However, AI should never be viewed in isolation, but rather as part of a holistic logistics system that links to adjacent areas such as RTTV or yard management.
For example, it can identify logistics assets such as containers or forklifts, predict arrival times, and identify and mitigate risks in the delivery network. Even seemingly simple tasks such as monitoring and optimizing master data or interfaces can be improved through AI.
Let's work together to identify and realize the potential of AI in your logistics and supply chain, and ultimately, to drive your business success.

  • Requirement

The customer already had several yard and transportation management systems in place, but due to the high volume of deliveries and pick-ups, they were unable to significantly improve productivity or reduce waiting times. The integration of AI was to address this issue.

  • Implementation and Benefits

With the help of AI and AI-based OCR cameras, all steps on the factory premises could be transparently mapped, enabling comprehensive monitoring. The AI-based gate process including time slot booking and pre-registration reduced registration times from 30 minutes to 3 minutes, and logistics personnel only need to intervene in exceptional cases. In addition, AI is now used to retrieve vehicles to the loading bays, allowing them to be fully automated and sequenced.

Realtime Visibility

Real-Time Transportation Visibility (RTTV) is critical to ensuring a stable supply chain by providing comprehensive supply chain monitoring. ETA/ATA calculations, tracking and the exchange of digital documents create transparency and allow for early detection and mitigation of delays.
I would like to support you with my experience from projects in ocean freight, outbound trucking, battery and rail logistics. My focus is not just on the transportation asset, but on the end-to-end view of processes and the supply chain. Together we will choose the right visibility approach and develop a holistic strategy, unbiased by sales pitches and market promises.

  • Requirement

BMW MC wanted to implement a cloud-based, real-time supply control system to better monitor criticality and range issues. Full integration with SAP ERP, tight carrier integration, and continuous ETA calculation were essential. In addition, weather data and traffic information needed to be incorporated to calculate delays through root cause analysis.

  • Implementation and Benefits

With the newfound visibility and integration, missing parts and insufficient availability can now be proactively identified and quick alternatives sought. Wait times were reduced and gate capacity could be managed more effectively. In addition, manual follow-ups and inquiries were eliminated and all delivery processes were integrated into a central tracking platform.

Digital Twins and IoT

In 2006, I discovered my passion for the strategic and operational aspects of sensor and serialization technologies through RFID and Ubiquitous Computing at SAP. Since then, I have been following the evolution of IoT closely, because beyond the technology, it is about integration and benefits for people and businesses!
As an experienced partner, I can help you maximize the potential of IoT and Digital Twins. Together we will work on the development and implementation of your IoT strategy from a logistics, supply chain, and overall business perspective. We will identify relevant use cases, select the right technologies and platforms, and integrate IoT solutions into your existing IT infrastructure. I will also help you meet regulatory requirements and establish new business models and partnerships.

  • Requirement

The automotive industry’s highly sensitive and expensive products rely on transparent, predictable logistics. Achieving this can be challenging, especially with rail transportation. The client’s wish was to create a seamless and transparent delivery process specifically for electric batteries to European manufacturing plants.

  • Implementation and Benefits

While much information was already available through IoT sensors installed in rail cars, without data linkage, it did not add value to the logistics process. To connect asset and transportation data, we developed a solution that aggregates and compares multiple sources on a single platform. This solution enables anomaly detection, precise routing of railcars at receiving stations (automotive plants), and creates a new level of visibility.

System Landscape Transformation

One central ERP system or many small standalone solutions? As always, the answer is somewhere in between. While a clear SAP strategy has its advantages, it becomes challenging when business departments constantly demand flexible and rapidly adaptable solutions.
I am here to help you optimize your logistics processes with the help of GenAI, Cloud, and IoT. My focus is on developing and implementing a holistic strategy to strengthen your competitiveness, streamline your operations, and achieve your business goals. Together, we will identify opportunities and challenges in your infrastructure, improve connectivity with your partners, and ensure greater efficiency through automation. I can also advise on circular economy and reverse logistics.
  • Requirement

The logistics processes of DE-VAU-GE Gesundkostwerk Deutschland GmbH have been running for a long time using an SAP strategy combined with add-ons and non-SAP products. However, today’s requirements make Track & Trace, holistic inbound avization incl. packaging logistics, modern communication and more efficient plant logistics are essential. The aim was therefore to implement these services at a reasonable price and effort with SAP integration and future-proof IT structures.

  • Implementation and Benefits

The ability to integrate is fundamental to a successful transformation, especially in the context of disparate cloud applications and data sources such as telematics and forwarding systems. Despite the innovations, existing functions and processes must continue to work seamlessly. Seamless integration with SAP, integrated carriers (API, EDI, etc.), and high coverage of tracking rate, expected milestones, and quality of arrival notifications in Track & Trace are critical in this case. Much of this goes beyond an IT project; it also involves people who are constantly optimizing and preparing for the next transformation.
